Jürgen JaspersPrincipal Investigator

Jürgen Jaspers is a sociolinguist and associate professor of Dutch linguistics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. His research mainly focuses on the ethnographic study of classroom interaction, urban multilingualism and linguistic standardisation processes.

Sue Goossens

Sue Goossens is a doctoral researcher at the Université libre de Bruxelles. She studied English and Italian linguistics and literature at the KU Leuven, and has a Master in Language Acquisition and Pedagogy from that institution. For her Master’s thesis she focused on the effect of cooperative learning on secondary school students’ implicit theories of knowledge, by conducting qualitative analyses of classroom interaction combined with qualitative, survey-based data.

Kirsten Rosiers

Kirsten Rosiers is a postdoctoral researcher at the ULB. She studied linguistics and literature at Ghent university. Her research focus is on multilingualism in education. She is interested in teacher-pupil-interaction in multilingual environments; her PhD research at Ghent University investigated multilingual interaction in two Belgian classrooms (Ghent and Brussels).

Gemma Vilanova Sanchez (from November 1, 2016 to Mars 30, 2018)

Gemma Vilanova holds a BA in Philosophy from the Universitat de Girona (Spain) and an MA in Multilingual Communication from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). She is fascinated by the miracle of language and the ways in which it shapes our daily lives. Her master’s thesis explored multilingualism from a holistic perspective, mainly focusing on the relationship between language(s), culture and identity, as well as on language attitudes.
